Austin, Texas - November 8, 2012 ? The Human Dimensions of Organizations (http://sites.la.utexas.edu/hdo/) (HDO) announced today that Art Markman (http://www.smartthinkingbook.com/p/about-art.html), Ph.D. will provide the keynote presentation Nov. 8th and 9th at the inaugural Open Innovation Conference sponsored by IC? Institute. This year's topic "The Journey from Ideation to Innovation" will discuss present and emerging models of open innovation to gain a better understanding of how an idea transitions into a viable market strategy.

Dr. Markman is author of Smart Thinking and is nationally recognized for his knowledge of the creative thinking process. He employs interdisciplinary analysis and out-of-the-box thinking in his consulting work with high-profile clients like Procter & Gamble, Forrester Research, Aetna Insurance, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Southern California Edison and Dr. Phil. At The University of Texas at Austin, he serves as the founding director of the new HDO executive Master of Arts program and as the Director of Research at the IC? Institute.

In his keynote address at the Open Innovation conference, he will discuss research being conducted with the Austin Technology Incubator that explores ways to make the innovation process more efficient. The ability to navigate the process of innovation better can have a direct impact on companies that need new products developed, cultural clashes solved, smarter communication strategies, and streamlined project management. ?

"Collaboration between academia, business and research organizations like IC? and ATI can help us overcome the bottlenecks in the innovation process and access the solutions organizations need to thrive," comments Markman.

With dual appointments in The University?s Psychology and Marketing Departments, Dr. Markman has a long-standing interest in bringing insights from cognitive science to a broader audience. To that end, he is a regular contributor to the Harvard Business Review, Psychology Today and the Huffington Post and is the executive editor of Cognitive Science. ?

As Dr. Markman explains, "Many of the challenges facing companies in the global marketplace will require innovative solutions and an in-depth understanding of psychology, marketing, history and cultures to find sustainable success."
